7 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Plans and implements programs for teen/tween patrons.
Provides circulation and reference services to library patrons and performs clerical and other routine tasks as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1.
Assists in planning and implementing programs for youth within the budget and goals set for the department and in programming in cooperation with other departments and staff as necessary.
2.
Provides circulation services by checking in and out materials and retrieving materials for patrons.
3.
Assists with maintenance of the Youth Services Department, including straightening, shelving materials, creating displays, and shelf reading in assigned areas.
4.
Provides basic reference services by assisting patrons in locating items.
5.
Answers library telephone and assists patrons by taking messages, renewing library materials for patrons, or transferring calls to appropriate departments or individuals.
6.
Assists with opening and closing the library.
7.
Operates the cash register for all cash transactions.
8.
Attends and participates in department, committee, and library staff meetings and programs.
9.
Serves on committees as assigned.
10.
May work other public service desks outside the department.
11.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ? Utilize good organization and customer service skills.
? Good interpersonal skills and communication skills, by phone and in writing.
? Work cooperatively with public and library staff.
? Ability to develop and implement youth programs with good presentation skills.
? Adapt to changing and evolving library procedures, priorities and information technologies.
? Work independently and be self-directed.
? Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, the Google Suite, and the Internet.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines, cash registers, projectors, DVD players and other equipment used for programs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position.
Generally 8 a.
m.
- 5 p.
m.
Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend hours.
This position will participate in the scheduled weekend work rotation.
Education/Experience 1.
Classes in education, child development or related fields are desirable.
2.
Exceptional verbal and written skills.
3.
Experience working with youth.
4.
Experience working with the public is desirable.
5.
Experience working in a library is desirable.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications High degree of customer service skills to work with a diverse group of patrons of all ages, including special needs patrons, and library staff.
