Insurance Specialist DEPARTMENT:

Director of Finance & Operations __Exempt XX Non-Exempt PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Manage the Special Learning Center (SLC) SKIP Clinic patient accounts in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system as well as in QuickBooks accounting software.
Serve as primary liaison between the clinic, patients and the third-party billing company.
Serve as assistant to the Director of Finance & Operations to complete other administrative tasks as assigned.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Benefit Checks & Authorizations Check insurance benefits of SLC Clinic patients by logging into insurance websites and/or calling insurance companies; Prepare No Surprise Act paperwork and ensure patient completes, signs and returns the document; Secure pre-Authorization for evaluations and treatments by logging into insurance websites and/or calling insurance companies; Patient Account Management Ensure new patient packets are completed and returned; Process new patient paperwork by creating an account in the EMR system as well as in QuickBooks; Serve as liaison between insurance companies and SLC's third party biller to ensure all claims are paid; Manage patient accounts in EMR system to ensure accuracy.
Any inaccuracies must be resolved with third-party billing company; Generate patient invoices in EMR system as well as in QuickBooks monthly; Responsible for understanding each patient's benefits including co-payments, co-insurance, deductible versus out-of-pocket expenses; Collect co-payments at time of service, if applicable; Any patient payments (i.
e.
co-payments, co-insurance, or deductibles) are posted to the patients account in the EMR system as well as in QuickBooks; Use insurance company websites to get patient Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and send patient EOB to SLC's third-party billing company as well as Director of Finance & Operations; Manage patient's authorizations to ensure they don't lapse.
Request additional authorizations in a timely manner, when necessary, to ensure continuity of care; Manage patient tracking spreadsheet to ensure all patient accounts are up-to-date; Credentialing of Clinic Therapists Credential and re-credential SLC clinic therapists when necessary; SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum of three years clerical experience, preferably working with health insurance Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Good written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills Effective customer relations skills Able to maintain strict confidentiality Strong attention to detail Job Types:
