The DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) works in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-driven organizational framework and provides DB2 administration expertise. This role is responsible for serving as the lead DBA for the DB2 9 product on the AIX DB2 UDB Platform. The DB2 DBA performs intermediate to advanced tasks related to database design and implementation, operation and recovery, security and auditing, performance, and installation and migration/upgrades specific to the AIX DB2 UDB Platform. The DB2 DBA will:
Install and maintain all DB2 9
software; ensure production system has current releases
Perform DB2 software maintenanceand collaborate with other Information Technology (IT) staff to verify compliance with IT data and architecture standards, policies and procedures
Analyze, design, implement and maintain all DB2 database structures
Design and implement database solutions that promote performance and availability optimization, data integrity and protection, and system scalability
Track, troubleshoot and resolve all database issues; maintain an issue resolution log
Provide written and oral input for DB2 technical documentation, as requested
Share knowledge with database team; mentor junior database team members
Create organized, repeatable, automated processes for managing data
Provide insight into secure data handling best practices; collaborate with information security (IS) team members to develop audit and data integrity controls
Use DB2 tools to monitor database performance and availability; provide frequent database status reports
Manage backup and recovery processes and business continuity plans and operations
Provide oversight for technical requirements development related to database needs
Develop new processes to meet business needs and employ industry-standard methodologies
Maintain industry/technical knowledge base and facilitate/maintain industry relationships
Demonstrate commitment to providing customer-focused quality service
Support assigned systems with on-call availability and respond within agreed upon timeframes
Perform other relevant duties based upon experience
Two (2) or more years of demonstrated experience in database administration in AIX/Linux environment with UDB
Demonstrated experience as a database administrator on DB2 UDB
Working knowledge and experience in application DBA and system programming DBA areas
Experience with using SQL programming languages
Capability to work independently and effectively in complex environments
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate to all project members and stakeholders; must be a team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources
